Speaker 1:

Welcome to Empowered Within, a soul-clenching, transformational podcast that will set your soul on fire. Through candid and inspiring conversations, leading experts, celebrities, healers and I share our journeys of how we've overcome challenges to living an empowered life from within. I'm your host, jennifer Pilates. Welcome to another episode of Empowered Within. Hi there and welcome to the show. I am so excited to have with us today Laura Stitchfield, the Pet PsyKick. We are now new BFFs. We've been chatting offline here and I'm so happy to have you here, laura. Welcome to the show.

Speaker 2:

Oh, thanks for having me. It's so great to be on.

Speaker 1:

Yes, this is so much fun, laura, let's just start Tell us a little bit about yourself and everything that we need to know about the Pet PsyKick.

Speaker 2:

Okay, so I am the Pet PsyKick and I've been talking to animals my whole life and it's my profession and so I do that and I'm a people medium. So both of those are my profession right now. And what else do you want to know, like how to talk to animals, or Tell me your journey.

Speaker 1:

Tell me your journey of how you became a people medium and animal communicator.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so when I was very little, I could hear the animals.

Speaker 2:

My earliest memory is my parents holding our Yorkshire Terrier over my crib and me hearing from her.

Speaker 2:

You're so small, and so I always knew what people, what animals, were thinking and feeling from when I was really little, and it wasn't until my early 20s that I realized that not everyone else did, and so that was really an interesting discovery for me, because that was during a time where I rode horses competitively and trainers were really horrible to horses back then. They whipped them, they did pretty nasty things to them and I couldn't understand why trainers would beat horses for not jumping if their hip was hurting them, and I couldn't understand why people hit dogs with newspapers if they went to the bathroom in the house, because they just didn't understand or they had a six stomach or something, and so it was really hard for me and I didn't realize it until I got into my early 20s and I was studying animal. I was studying to be an animal trainer and one of the ladies there, one of the trainers, said to me what are you doing? The animals are coming along faster with you.

Speaker 2:

And I thought she was someone I really respected and I really looked up to. I was really shy at that time and so I really started to think what am I doing? What's different? And at that same time someone had given me a book on animal communication and I had a cat named Juliet and I was backpacking a lot at that time and every time I would come home from a trip she would meet me on the front stoop, take a look at me and then take off. She'd just be like gone, and sometimes she would be gone for days. And I had her set up for when I was gone my sister would come and take care of her and everything. So someone was taking care of her when I was gone, but she was so mad at me that she just would take off. So I read in this book that if you picture the sun rising and setting for as many days as you'll be gone and then picture yourself coming back home, that they'll understand that. So I did that to Juliet and when I got home from the next trip she met me on the front stoop and then she came into the house and then she actually slept with me that night and was like kneading and purring, and that was a behavior that she never did. So I was like, wow, there's really something to this, there's really something to you like sending the information to animals, not just feeling what they knew.

Speaker 2:

Then I had a dog her name was Lala and she I had her at that time too and I moved to California and I was studying more of the animal training and more of the animal psychic work and I came home from one of my classes and I was practicing and I said to Lala. I said Lala, what, how are you today? And I heard really clearly in words like mom, I'm dying inside, like really strong. And I said to my boyfriend at the time Lala just said she's dying and she was backpacking with us and stuff. So she was, she didn't seem like she was dying, she seemed healthy. And he said I know you didn't hear that a couple months later she had a spleen tumor, that first and she had to be rushed to the hospital. And and that's an interesting thing too, because I was like I said I was it was a really shy time in my life and I had read, been reading it was before the internet and I had been reading, like all these books on trusting your intuition. And so I was in the hospital with her and she that's all came up to me and there was like a team of them.

Speaker 2:

I was at a specialist hospital and they were like the humane thing to do is to euthanize her. And I just looked at her and she just did not want to die there. She wanted to go home. She'd been there for a few days. So I it was really hard for me because all these people who were older than me were like staring at me saying this is cruel if you take her. But everything inside of me was saying no, and she was looking at me, saying I want to go home. So I took her home and One of the vets came out while I was putting her in the car and said to me hey, I want, just want you to know that I would have done the same thing and if she doesn't pass away tonight, you call me. And she gave me her number and so then I slept with her that night and then that next day I had to call her and she had to come up to help her. And it was beautiful morning. Her name was the dog, was la la her name. She was outside and I was stroking her and Everyone thought that I would be like a mess after la la died.

Speaker 2:

But the really the most amazing thing happened during her euthanasia.

Speaker 2:

When they get, when the woman gave her the shot I actually saw her spirit, la la spirit, rise out of her body and it was like I say it's like coins in a wishing well or like the sun shining off water.

Speaker 2:

It was like this, really shimmering and I felt her fly through me and it was literally the most Beautiful feeling that I've ever felt in my life. Like to this day and I've actually felt that a few times since then, but just a handful of times and I've had some unbelievable mystical experiences. But she, that incident with la la pretty much sent me on a journey to Helping people with death and dying and helping people like get through it. Because I had been like I'd lived in the back of a Pick-up truck with her. I had cams all over the country with her. Everyone thought like when she went that I would just be a mess and it was. You just couldn't with what I felt like just knowing where she was. It was Just such a beautiful experience that it's propelled me Forward to learn more of the animal communication and to help people in that area.

Speaker 1:

That is such an incredibly beautiful story. Oh, my goodness, now Do you still communicate with her? Does she come around you still, actually?

Speaker 2:

I actually think she is my dog that I have now. So I believe that she reincarnated into another dog and that dog then lived out its life and passed away and now she's in my dog now, so I feel like she's come back to me through. This is the third time.

Speaker 1:

Oh my goodness, so that is so cool. So you do believe that pets can reincarnate. Oh my, 100%, 100%. How do how does someone know, like, how would I know if, like, I had a fur baby that passed, if he's come back as One of the babies that I have, how would we know?

Speaker 2:

It's just a feeling. You just have a feeling of I know this animal Like I, and they do things that are similar, like they might lie in the same places or nuzzle you in the same way or have Like a few of the tendencies that the other one had, but it's not exact clone. It's a different personality because it's a new life and new lessons and new genetics. So there are a lot of differences, but there is like this basic feeling that you have, that you're like just know you, I just Feel you, and when they come back to you, there are all these like different signs and synchronicities. Like with Lala and I didn't know when she came back as my dog stormy. I didn't know about reincarnation like I, it wasn't something I was studying or even I thought I was interested in at that time and she had Lala had this little white like piece of hair that we used to always lay with like on her head Choose sable color but she had this like white piece of hair and this dog stormy.

Speaker 2:

I had to pick him out of a litter of 10 and I wanted to keep his tail, so I had to. He looked like a little rodent when I picked him out, but the reason why I picked him was because he had this little white like thing there, and so there's like little signs like that that if I was looking for reincarnation, that would have helped me pick him. I was not necessarily looking for reincarnation, I just and that's the thing that's so amazing about it when they come back, you're magnets for one another, so you'll just find each other. I don't have to be like super focused on am I gonna get it right? It just happens.

Speaker 1:

It just happens. That is so beautiful. Yeah, over the time that you've been doing all of this work, how do you feel this has enhanced your life?

Speaker 2:

Oh, it makes me an ah every single day, like literally an ah, like the things that they know. Just blow my mind that I their consciousness, because I know what it's like to just I live with a lot of animals, to live with them and just watch them as an absorber. But you don't necessarily know all the things that they're paying attention to. They'll often talk about people, like their conflicts that people are having at work. People aren't even at home and the animals will know about conflict that they're having at work. Or they'll know what a child is going through, like the struggles that they're going through, and they'll offer advice like they're little gurus in a way.

Speaker 2:

But children can be like that too. And then the stuff with the reincarnation it just blows your mind about how we are all connected and how we're just, our bodies are just this vehicle for this life. It is oh so amazing. It just fascinates me, literally fascinates me every day and I get human where you get, oh, like there's so much hustle we have to do in life and we've got to hustle, hustle, hustle, but to slow down and stop and just to really ponder just the magic of their little spirits and just what they give us. It's just, it really is. I'm just so blessed, really so blessed, Walk me through.

Speaker 1:

what would a session with you be like if I came to you and said will you read on my babies?

Speaker 2:

Yes, what you would do is you go online and then you would. You can book everything online. So you book your time and you pay, and then you could send an email with a form to fill, with a link to a form to fill out, and then you fill out that form. It's just asked like a little bit about who's in the family and age of the pet and ask you to upload a picture, and then any questions you're thinking of having, or issues. And I have questions and issues for two reasons.

Speaker 2:

Or that form, okay, so that one people start thinking about what do they really wanna know, what do they wanna talk to their animal about? So they start formulating that. And then also so I get an idea of what people want out of the session it keeps me organized during the session. Then when it's our session time, I call the client and then we go over the form and I ask them if they have more questions and then I tell the animal that we're talking and then we can go back and forth. So I ask the animal question, the animal tells me, and then I relate that to the people and we can go back and forth and I actually type it out while I'm talking to the animal, so you'll hear me typing away and maybe whispering.

Speaker 1:

Super cool. And then do you ask questions above and beyond what people bring to the table.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it depends on the issue. I won't ask a question just because I wanna know Like. I'll only ask it if the people wanna know.

Speaker 1:

Got it.

Speaker 2:

Definitely so. I've been doing this a long time and I have that animal trainer background. Let's say you have a cat that's peeing outside the litter box and you wanna know what's going on. I know a lot of reasons why animals pee outside the litter box, so I might go through that with the pet. Does your stomach hurt? Does it hurt, sting when you pee?

Speaker 2:

Because some behaviors are unconscious, like they're acting out of behavior, and they're like us, like we sometimes do, that we act out of behavior and we're not really conscious of why we're doing it. So sometimes I have to talk to the pet about that Part. Issues are the same way too, cause, like you don't know, like any health issue, I kind of I have clients that animals have been diagnosed with certain things and I know how those animals feel. So then when an animal is sick, I can kind of ask them. If they tell me their chest hurts when they're walking or something, I know what to ask them. I don't diagnose at all, but I can help say this sounds like this might be it. You might want to bring this up to your bed.

Speaker 1:

Very cool. Do you feel that there are common messages that pets always want to bring to their owners? When you're in your sessions?

Speaker 2:

There's. There are really just basic pet ones where, like they want to walk, going to a green park is like literally, for us these coasters, that's like whatever. But for, like people who live in somewhere else besides, where there's green grass, like pets want green grass, they want to go and hang out on lawns, they want to be around flowers, they want to be around nature. So that is like a number one. That's a common theme. Another common theme is acid reflux. Like that, like crazy, so like whenever an animal is like licking or has a little bit of a cough, that's often acid reflux. So they're complaining about their food. A lot Interesting.

Speaker 1:

I'm not surprised. It's tough to get really good, healthy food for animals.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and then they want people to do fun things. So it's really interesting, because pets don't understand why we don't do the things that we love to do, like why is there a resistance of doing the things we love to do? So Bill often says, like why isn't she writing? Or why isn't she painting or read more, mom, or take a bath more, or something like that, oh my gosh, that's so cool.

Speaker 1:

When you do your sessions, how long do they usually last, or does it depend?

Speaker 2:

on an animal, typically between a half hour and two hours, but you book your time.

Speaker 1:

Okay, that's super cool, and I believe you told me you book pretty far out in advance. Is that right? I do couple to a few months Okay so that's good to know too, so that people can jump on your website ahead of time and get on that wait list. So tell me about. I know that you have a couple of books. I know that you have a meditation CD. Tell me about those and how all that came to bear. I wish.

Speaker 2:

I had them right here. I didn't come prepared, but one is Voices of the Animals and that is a collection of stories of my pet psychic work and also articles that I wrote for the Santa Barbara news press, and so it's really fun because you get they. Like the stories will make you laugh and some will make you crap, and then you'll also learn a lot about how to communicate with animals and how to send yourself and how to deal with death and dying. The other book is Stormy's Words of Wisdom and that's a collection of little tidbits of wisdom from my dog, my late dog, stormy. I used to have a podcast myself and at the end of that podcast he would always do a little Stormy's Word of Wisdom segment and so that's where that came from. So he had a big following, like way before social media. Like I wish I had Stormy during Instagram because that would have been fun.

Speaker 2:

And then the other one is my CD with his pet communication for death and dying and it's about navigating the death and dying process so it can actually lead you through, like how to tell if you're animal than pain and where your animal is in pain, and then how to explain to your animal about passing and how to say goodbye, those besides the one about the knowing about your animals and pain, all of the tracks can also be listened to after they've passed away so that you can still have that communication with your animal.

Speaker 2:

And then there's one, there's a track on there to connect with your animal the day of euthanasia or the day of them passing, so you can get and feel their soul Going into spirit or becoming one with spirit and then dealing with guilt or just feeling like you need to have that connection. So people really love that CD and actually I was surprised when my bunny passed away I actually started to play it, like just why I was in the house, because it was like even helped me. It was just so nice to have it and be able to connect with him. So you don't really need to meditate with that. You can, just you can have it playing in the background Very helpful.

Speaker 1:

That is super helpful. Yeah, how do you feel? I want to ask this question because I've heard this and I don't know how you feel about it. I've heard that animals know, like it's preplanned, when they're going to pass and how they're going to pass. Have you heard?

Speaker 2:

this, some do and some don't OK. Definitely it's like us, I think some do and some don't OK.

Speaker 2:

I don't think they always choose their passing time. I think sometimes that's chosen for them. But I do feel, like with the animals and with people, that the veil does get thinner a few days before. So you might feel that animal might feel that and the animal might feel like they're like OK, like this is different, and then they might see animals or people on the other side, like even our ancestors will come for them and they'll start seeing them before the days, in the days before they pass, so that way they may know yeah, that's really special.

Speaker 1:

And let's talk a little bit about your mediumship with people. Do you have a preference? Let's ask this Do you have a preference between people and animals during your sessions?

Speaker 2:

Animals are easier on me, but it's more me than it is. I just there's. So with people, there's so much unfinished business and that can be sensitive for people. It's a little harder on me, but I still love them. I love them just the same. Yeah, yeah, I do love them.

Speaker 2:

Animals are my soul's work, oh, but definitely like I love people, connecting them with their people, because people on the other side they wanna make amends for things that they did on. Many of them do, I should say not all of them do, but many of them do. They wanna make amends and they have a impact on our lives here, which is really amazing. They can bring opportunities into our life. They can give a sign, they can send us in the right direction a lot of times. So it's beautiful to connect people with their loved ones on the other side and get them to open up that communication themselves. With all my work, my side objective of just connecting with them is I really want people to be able to feel like they can connect with their loved ones on the other side and here as well. That's what I love the most is that when I have clients that say, oh, because of our session, like I'm talking to my loved one now or my pet now.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that is so special. Yeah, that is really special. So let me ask you this question. So you're in the grocery store, walking down the street, are you here in every dog and every bird?

Speaker 2:

Not anymore. When I was a younger I did, and I would get exhausted, like just exhausted, because I was an open channel all the time and I had no boundaries. So I literally spent a day a week like in bed because I was so exhausted all the time. And I learned as I got older to really put up boundaries and so I turn it off. It's just like having a cell phone or just like just an average person walking in there.

Speaker 2:

If I look at someone, if I look someone in the eyes, I can see a lot about them, and so sometimes I try not to look too much. I understand, and the same with the animals. Like I'm gonna talk to an animal that I see out, but I don't always. I'm very, I'm in an introvert by nature, so I wouldn't always tell people like oh, I see you're dead grandma or your brother or your pet is here or what the pet is saying. Just cause, cause, I'm too shy, I think, to do that. But I think having boundaries is extremely important when any of us do this kind of work, because you wanna have energy enough for your own life and if you're constantly being swayed in all those different directions, it's really hard to sustain yourself and be focused on your goals Absolutely.

Speaker 1:

So what is our? What are some of the practices that you employ, maybe pre-session, post-session, to prepare and release yourself and resuit up, so to speak?

Speaker 2:

Yes, so I I always right before a session and it can happen quick, like I don't need because you know I'm doing a lot of them during the day but before every single session I connect in with my heart center and I concentrate on my breath and then I always call in like my higher power, my higher self and any guides, my guides, the client's guides, the animal's guides, and ask them to really help make the communication clear and then also help everyone feel as if they benefited from the session. That's where I really set that intention and I do that before every single client. That's beautiful. The closing I don't do much of a routine with the closing. I'm usually like rushing to get to the next one.

Speaker 1:

So for those out there who are like, oh my gosh, like I want to do this, I want to learn how to do this, or maybe they're already kissing and they're at that early stage, like you're speaking of, where there's this open vessel, what if so many people are open vessel. Oh, so many people. What advice would you give to them to learn how to close that vessel and set those healthy boundaries?

Speaker 2:

There's so many and pieces of advice but the ones that have helped me the most in the very beginning is to start looking at your relationships with people in your life and start thinking to yourself do I have healthy boundaries? Are people treating me well? Am I respecting myself? And if you're doing that, you're going to have boundaries in the spirit world as well.

Speaker 2:

I think really starts with our communication with people and our boundaries with even animals here, and then to really I'm huge in a meditation and brain, heart coherence. So it's extremely important to start realizing that we are in charge of our own energy and we are in charge of our own thoughts and feelings. And so often people want to put the blame on a situation that happened or another person, or even an animal, their behavior. And it's really important to take it back, connect in with yourself and start asking yourself like, what is my energy like right now? Am I calm? Am I centered? Do I know how to self-regulate myself back to that? And how long does it take me to self-regulate myself back to that? Because if you can start self-regulating yourself back to that, you're going to be centered enough so that you can hear something else come in. And then the other thing is to start really paying attention to your thoughts and feelings, because you can't know what someone else is saying if you don't know what yourself is saying. So it's important to okay how do I think? Do I think in pictures? Do I feel things in my body? Do I see flashes of pictures or do I see a movie? Do I just have a sense of knowing what are the things that I'm saying to myself. So then if you're in a calm moment and something else pops in, you can be like huh, that just popped in. And it can be something little like when I'm talking to an animal. Something might happen to me where, like I'm talking to them and then all of a sudden, like my shoulder hurts or my hand cramps up and I can easily think like it's the way I'm over the computer, it's the way I'm typing, but I have to always ask myself that's weird, I didn't have it three seconds ago, so now I need to ask the animal do you have a pain in your shoulder? Go back and get confirmation.

Speaker 2:

The other thing that I think is really important for people to understand and to start practicing is to giving themselves permission to slow down and to have patience, because we are so with Instagram and Facebook and scrolling and emails and text messages. We are being bombarded all the time by either someone needing us or some sensory or something that we have trained ourselves to do. And just giving yourself the time, especially with animals, to just send yourself again and just be patient and say okay, what do I need to do? So, for instance, if an animal is jumping on you, just take a moment before you say off and then send yourself. And then how do I say this in a clear way so my animal can understand me? Because if I'm frantic when I say it, my animal is going to get more frantic.

Speaker 1:

That's a really good piece of advice, lots of good pieces of advice, absolutely. We are getting to this time in the show where I like to ask this one question Laura, are you ready? I'm ready, all right. What is one thing that no one knows about, laura?

Speaker 2:

I thought about this before when I listened to your podcast, but all of those have gone out of my head. But when you just said that it was so weird, I just thought to myself that I would want a treehouse.

Speaker 1:

You're in a perfect location for that.

Speaker 2:

There are so many other things that I'm not sharing.

Speaker 1:

And that's okay. Those are healthy boundaries. I love it. Oh my gosh, this is so much fun, laura, will you share, as we begin to close out the show, one last piece of parting inspiration for our community.

Speaker 2:

Just believe in yourself and believe in your animals and believe that they can understand you and believe that your loved ones are with you in spirit and believe in the possibility of everything can get better. It gets better from here.

Speaker 1:

Perfect. I love it. And, laura, will you also share with our audience where is the best way that they can connect with you so that they can arrange a reading with you?
